Countdown to the International AIDS Society Conference … Only 2 weeks and 2 days prior its start …

July 2, 2010

In 2 weeks and 2 days, the International AIDS Society (IAS) conference in Vienna will start … This is an important event that occurs every 2 years.
This conference addresses AIDS from the perspectives of science, education, activism, politics, art, social and human rights, women’s empowerment discussions, community, children’s issues and much more. This conference is a forum for different sides of society from all over the world to join in the effort to fight the AIDS epidemic worldwide.

In this conference, I will be launching THE AIDS-FREE JOURNEY Project where I intend to raise awareness on AIDS treatment and prevention and other related issues using all expressions of art as tools for communication and to reach out people, especially women.

I hope you check this blog often and give me your suggestions and insights regarding AIDS, arts within the AIDS field, and any other related topic you may want to discuss.

Thanks,
Siglia

RESILIENCE STORIES ABOUT AIDS, DESPAIR AND HOPE

July 2, 2010

Do you have stories to share of resilience related to AIDS … maybe something that started out of despair and unexpectedly became a source of hope?

I would like to hear from you …

These stories, with your authorization and under confidentiality, could eventually be used as a storytelling approach to reach out to youngsters, especially those affected by AIDS/HIV …

I am exploring ways of telling stories about resilience in an artful manner …

I am waiting for your stories ….

thank you,

Siglia

GOING TO THE INTERNATIONAL AIDS SOCIETY CONFERENCE … WHAT TO BRING?

July 1, 2010

The AIDS-FREE JOURNEY project is being launched at the International Aids Society Conference (www.aids2010.org) later this month in Vienna. The project will be presented there and I will be collaborating with two international AIDS (non profit) organizations  (Stop AIDS Now and Tree Foundation) at a booth approved by the conference committee for the Global Village part of the conference, at the Networking sector … There will be other 25 collaborators (organizations from all over the world) throughout the week at our booth also presenting their work, mingling, exchanging experiences and ‘enlightening’ each other with insights and ideas …

The AIDS-FREE JOURNEY project is in a beginning phase, and my idea is to go there to learn, to get ideas and collaborations and see how those experiences can be applied (initially) in San Diego county, my home town, and how art can be used as a tool of educational programs and/or activities to raise awareness on AIDS/HIV.

I intend to post the activities and curiosities from the conference (and from the beautiful city of Vienna!!) on a daily basis, but I also wanted to know what you would like to know from there … what you would like me to explore/ask for there …. and then post here …

IDEAS AND INSIGHTS ARE IN GREAT NEED NOW… Just stop by and let me know some of your thoughts about this experience …

Thank you

Siglia

RAISING AWARENESS ON AIDS/HIV WITH ARTISTIC INITIATIVES …

July 1, 2010

This blog is a part of a newly created project: AIDS-FREE JOURNEY that intends to use all expressions of art to raise awareness on AIDS/HIV prevention, treatment and all issues associated to this disease (e.g., women’s empowerment, social & cultural stigma, financial burden, community accountability, and political indifference).

Please see additional information on this individual, not for profit initiative/project on the page entitled ‘About’. I am affiliated, as a board member, with Christie’s place: a non-profit organization in San Diego that supports women, children and communities affected by AIDS.

I would like to open this post for comments and questions on AIDS/HIV awareness, how art can help as a tool for activism and education in the AIDS field, what has been done …

I invite you to participate … Bring your ideas and insights which will help to shape this new project’s proposal in ways that will really benefit all that are involved with the delivery or with the receiving of the services that this project can produce.

Thank you,

Siglia
